Nomination Process
Each spring the Selection Committee for the Marlene F. Richman Award, together with the Office of the Vice President and Dean of Students in the University, announces the Richman Award to the University community and solicits nominations from students. Nomination forms are posted on this website.
For each year's process, nomination forms or letters must be e-mailed to the Selection Committee at:
Richmanaward@listhost.uchicago.edu
before midnight on the deadline (May 5, in 2008). No late nominations will be accepted.
Nominees will be evaluated by four major criteria: communication, time, responsiveness, and respect.
Only nominations from students will be considered. Nominations should be submitted in the form downloaded from this website, or they may take the form of a letter to the committee which provides the following information:
- The name and department of the nominee
- How long and in what context do(es) the student(s) know the nominee
- Examples that illustrate the nominee's exemplary commitment to students, and how they have demonstrated excellence in the four categories this award recognizes: communication, time, responsiveness, and respect
- Any special circumstances that the Selection Committee should consider about the nominee
- The name, degree program and email address of the student(s) submitting the nomination.
Nominations must have a written explanation to be considered; the submission of the name of a staff member without explanation will not be considered. The committee will take note of multiple nominations; while separate nomination forms or letters are preferred, students may also co-author a nomination form or letter.
Nominations are due before midnight on the deadline, and should be emailed to Richmanaward@listhost.uchicago.edu .
